Why Recycle?
The computer and electronic waste stream is growing rapidly in the United States, growing three times faster than any other waste material we generate.
More than 3.2 million tons of electronic waste is deposited in landfills each year and that figure is expected to rise by 3 percent to 5 percent per year. Electronics can contain lead, chromium, mercury, cadmium, and other hazrdous waste which over time leak into the water stream if dumped into the landfill.
By the use of recycling methods, the materials recovered from electronics to manufacture new products sustains the earth’s natural resources by helping eliminate electronics waste (e-waste). Electronics recycling also conserves impressive amounts of energy in the manufacturing process, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from those facilities.
Here are some benefits of recycling electronics:
- Reduces landfill space
- Creates less toxic chemical emissions
- Can be used as source of lead for other products
- Conserves energy use in manufacturing plants
- Conserves natural resources
Electronics recycling plays a very vital role in the technology age of today. We all love our electronics and some can not do without them. We should also love our earth too and keep those products out of landfills when we are done with them.
